About Similan Islands diving

Koh Tachai
Koh Tachai

Multi day Similan Island liveaboard diving to the best dive sites in Thailand.

There are quite a few dive boats visiting the Similans, there is a liveaboard to suit most budgets and to fit most schedules.

Similan liveaboard season

The Similan Islands liveaboard season runs from November to April and boats depart from Phuket or Khao Lak.

Similan liveaboard itinerary

The standard Similan Islands liveaboard itinerary is 4 days 4 nights to the Similan Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock with 14 dives (11 day dives and 3 night dives).

Shorter one or two night trips are also available as are trips of longer duration.

Liveaboards are also available to Hin Daeng/Hin Muang/Koh Haa and to Burma’s Mergui archipelago.

A typical full day on a liveaboard starts early with a light breakfast before dive number one which is at around 8.00 am.

A big breakfast follows the first dive, and dive 2 is at around midday which is followed by lunch.

Dive 3 is at about 3.00 pm.

The last dive of the day is either a sunset dive before dinner, or a later night dive after dinner.

So basically you dive and eat all day. There is approximately 2.5 hours surface interval between each dive when you can sleep, relax on board, go snorkeling or visit the islands. A few boats have kayaks on board for their guests’ use.

As well as great diving the Similan Islands also have some of Thailand’s best beaches and there is a nice view point to climb on island number 8.

If you are not a diver but want to join a liveaboard for snorkeling there are a few dedicated Similan Islands snorkeling liveaboards.

Courses on a liveaboard

Most boats teach PADI continuing education courses on board, in fact combining the PADI Advanced course or a specialty like Nitrox is a great idea as the training dives can be easily integrated into the scheduled liveaboard dives, and it works out cheaper too. Only a few boats teach PADI Open Water certification in the Similan Islands, please ask us for details.

What else?

There are no bars or nightlife of any sort at the Similan Islands.

There is mobile and internet connectivity in places so you are not completely cut off from civilization.
